Number of tourists continues to rise

Tourist accommodation registered 2.6 million guests and 6.8 million overnight stays in October, corresponding to year-on-year increases of 23.4% and 23.5%, and 5% and 6.2% compared to the same month of 2019, according to the quick estimate, published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In October, the internal market contributed with 1.8 million overnight stays (-2.7%) and the external markets totalled 4.9 million (+37.3%).

Compared to October 2019, before the pandemic, there were increases of 21% in overnight stays from residents and 1.5% in those from non-residents, the latter being the highest growth compared to 2019.
