Greece is among the top 10 European destinations that travelers plan to visit between October 2024 and March 2025, according to the latest report from the European Travel Commission (ETC).

The ETC’s “Monitoring Sentiment for Intra-European Travel” Wave 20 report reveals that 4,901 respondents from 10 key European markets — Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Poland, and Austria — express a strong desire to travel. The UK leads the way, with 84 percent of respondents indicating their intention to travel, reflecting an increase of 10 percent from 2023. Germany follows at 79 percent (up 16 percent), and France at 78 percent (up 15 percent).

Greece in top 10 of preferred countries for vacation

The report positions Greece in 6th place among the preferences of European travelers for intra-European travel. Topping the list are Spain and France, each chosen by 7 percent of respondents, followed closely by Italy at 6 percent, Germany at 4.8 percent, and Austria at 4.7 percent in 5th place. Greece is chosen by 4.5 percent of respondents. Croatia ranks 7th with 4.1 percent, while the top 10 is rounded out by the United Kingdom (3.9 percent), Portugal (3.8 percent), and Belgium (3.4 percent).

Specifically regarding Greece, the intention-to-travel data for the period between October 2024 and March 2025 indicates that the country ranks as a top 5 destination for travelers from Austria (4th place), the United Kingdom (4th place), and France (4th place).

• 5 percent of Austrians plan to visit Greece during the review period, while 4 percent have already visited the country.
• 7 percent of the British plan to travel to Greece, with a similar percentage having visited in the past.
• 5 percent of French travelers intend to visit Greece, while 4 percent have previously traveled there.

In contrast, travelers from Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland do not include Greece in their top 5 European destinations for intra-European travel between October 2024 and March 2025.

Furthermore, the report indicates that Greece, along with Croatia and Portugal, is expected to attract new travelers from October 2024 to March 2025, while Spain, France, and Austria maintain interest among repeat visitors.

Travel Enthusiasm Soars Among Europeans for Autumn and Winter 2024/2025

Overall, the ETC’s research has revealed a surge in European travel sentiment for the upcoming autumn and winter seasons, with 73 percent of Europeans planning trips between October 2024 and March 2025. This marks a 6 percent increase from the same period last year.

The data demonstrates a growing enthusiasm for travel across all age groups in Europe, with the most significant increase observed among younger Europeans.
