Greece Sees Early Surge in Direct Hotel Bookings for 2026

  • 7 December, 25

Early booking momentum is accelerating sharply across Greek destinations for 2026, driven by increasingly price-sensitive international travelers who are securing lower rates well in advance.

New analysis from Nelios, a leading Greek digital marketing agency specializing in hotel direct bookings, shows a 33.3 percent rise in pre-bookings and a 19.2 percent increase in revenue compared to the same period last year, based on data compiled through the end of October.

Island winners and Destinations showing mixed performance

The strong early demand is reflected across nearly all major leisure destinations. Kos and Paros stand out as the biggest winners, posting exceptional jumps in pre-bookings of 170 percent and 139.5 percent, respectively. Revenue gains are equally strong, reaching 132.5 percent for Kos and 47.2 percent for Paros.

Crete also leads nationally, recording increases of 117.5 percent in bookings and an impressive 164.66 percent in revenue, while the Ionian Islands follow with a 58.2 percent rise in reservations and a 129.5 percent revenue surge.

Corfu is another top performer, posting 69 percent growth in bookings and 146 percent in revenue.

However, not all island destinations are moving in the same direction. Santorini and Mykonos show declines in revenue (-7.4 percent and -19 percent), though Mykonos records a 15.1 percent lift in early bookings.  Zakynthos and Rhodes both show more moderate reductions, reflecting differences in early-season demand and the increasing trend toward shorter booking windows for mature destinations.

Cities and mainland destinations record strong early demand

Urban centers are benefiting from the early-booking trend as well. Thessaloniki leads with a 67.7 percent increase in bookings, followed by strong revenue growth of 56.2 percent. Athens also performs solidly, posting increases of 24 percent in bookings and 29.22 percent in revenue. Among mainland leisure destinations, Parga shows one of the strongest expansions, with bookings up 83.8 percent and revenue up 56 percent, while the Peloponnese posts significant gains of 63.8 percent in bookings and 67.8 percent in revenue.

Commenting on the findings, Nelios CEO Dimitris Serifis said rising price sensitivity is redefining traveler behavior.

“We see that international travelers are extremely sensitive to pricing, and this pushes them toward early booking offers,” he said. “The strong rise in pre-bookings for 2026 reflects exactly this pattern: the intention to travel is high, but many book early to secure lower rates.”

Festive season 2025 also accelerates as price sensitivity drives traveler behavior

Alongside next year’s surge, hotels are also seeing robust demand for the 2025 holiday period.

Early bookings for the festive season are up 19.3 percent, while revenue has jumped 32.5 percent. Arachova dominates, with bookings up 137.5 percent and revenue up 161 percent, followed by Metsovo. Athens and Thessaloniki also show healthy festive-period gains.

Looking ahead, Nelios Digital Business Optimization Expert Emmanouela Kouka noted that the current trend mirrors the pattern seen in 2025.

“We are seeing the same booking curve emerge: strong early demand, a pause, and then a surge of last-minute reservations,” she underlined. “It is clear that travelers now operate with strong price sensitivity, and offers significantly shape the rhythm of early bookings for the new season.”

Overall, the analysis of Nelios signals a highly favorable outlook for 2026, with both island and mainland destinations benefiting from a decisive shift toward earlier, value-driven booking behavior.
