AIMA Opens Residence Permit Renewal Portal; Golden Visa Investors Must Confirm NIF Details
- 14 May, 26
Portugal’s Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum, AIMA, has announced that the Residence Permit Renewal Portal is now open for applicants whose residence cards expire in July and August 2026. Eligible residents can submit their renewal requests via the official renewal platform: portal-renovacoes.aima.gov.pt.
AIMA stated that it will continue working to open the renewal portal earlier in the coming months, aiming to better meet the needs of foreign residents in Portugal.
Golden Visa Investors Must Check Their NIF Before Renewal
AIMA has also issued an important notice to around 50,000 holders of Residence Permits for Investment, known as ARI or Portugal Golden Visa, and their family members: before applying for renewal, applicants must ensure that their Portuguese Tax Identification Number, NIF, is correctly linked to their personal record.
If the NIF is missing, incorrect, or not properly validated, the renewal request cannot proceed on the AIMA Renewal Portal. According to AIMA, this measure aims to improve administrative efficiency and ensure that immigration records accurately reflect each investor’s identity and personal information.
How to Update Your Information
Golden Visa holders should review their personal data in advance. If the NIF is not shown on the residence permit or in the system record, or if any information is incorrect, applicants should request a correction through AIMA’s official contact form. After the update is completed, it is recommended to wait 2 working days before logging into the renewal portal to complete registration and submit the application.
In addition to the NIF, applicants may also update other key information, including address, email contact, Social Security Identification Number, or NISS, and Health User Number.
If the applicant is represented by a lawyer or solicitor, the representative’s contact details may also be provided. However, the representative must include the applicant’s NIF and registration number for processing purposes.
Tax and Social Security Certificates May Still Be Required
It is important to note that updating the NIF or NISS in the system does not exempt applicants from presenting certificates proving regularised status with the Portuguese Tax Authority and Social Security, or proof of non-registration where applicable.
