Athens Airport Passenger Traffic Rises 13.1% in February

Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport (AIA) continued its strong upward trend in February, reaching 1.98 million travelers – a 13.1 percent increase compared to the same month last year.

According to data released by the airport, both domestic and international traffic recorded significant gains during the month. Domestic passenger numbers rose by 9.9 percent year-on-year, while international traffic increased by 14.4 percent.

Strong start to 2026

During the first two months of 2026, the airport handled a total of 3.97 million passengers, marking an increase of 10.8 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

Domestic traffic during January–February grew by 8.5 percent, while international passenger numbers increased by 11.7 percent. Aircraft movements also recorded steady growth. A total of 34,469 flights were operated at the airport during the first two months of the year, representing an 8.3 percent increase compared to 2025. Domestic flights rose by 5.8 percent, while international flights increased by 9.8 percent.

The February figures are preliminary, according to AIA.

Athens Among Europe’s fastest-growing Mega Hubs

The airport’s continued growth comes as Athens International Airport ranks among Europe’s fastest-growing major hubs, according to recent data released by ACI Europe.

Following a record performance in 2025, the latest figures highlight the airport’s strong momentum in early 2026, with international traffic continuing to drive much of the growth.

Athens Airport began the year on a positive trajectory, building on the gains recorded in January, when passenger traffic increased by 8.6 percent year-on-year.
