Investment in Portugal Golden Visa dropped 13% in 2020

In 2020,investment in ARI program, also known as the Golden Visa , reaches 646,729,464.80 euros, compared to 742 million euros in 2019 – a decrease of about 13% , according to data from the Portuguese Immigration Service (SEF).
The figures show that 1,182 profiles have been approved, less than 1,245 granted in 2019. In December, investments amounted to 27,737,718.69 euros, 46% less than November and down 38% over the same period last year.
In December, 49 applications were approved, 47 investors were in real estate option (7 of which invested in rehabilitation works) and 2 for capital transfer.
Real estate purchases have raised 26.3 million euros, of which 2.4 million euros corresponds to the acquisitions for urban rehabilitation. In addition, it is noteworthy that out of 1,182 applications approved last year, there were 75 Investors from the United States (ranked 3rd), just behind China (296 applications) and Brazil (126 applications). South Africa and Turkey are in 4th and 5th with 74 and 72 .
The number of Golden Visa applications approved in 2020 in Portugal has decreased by 5% compared to 2019 but is still very small number compared to Greece when the reduction is up to 90%. The number of applications approved by this country in 2020 is only 403 compared to 3,504 in 2019.
