Portugal is among the 13 countries with the largest gold reserves in the world , with 382.5 tons of the precious metal worth about 1.2,1 billion euros . The Banco de Portugal (BdP) has not bought or sold gold since the third quarter of 2006, with the last sales taking place in 2002 and 2006, under an agreement with other central banks that limited the sale of the asset. 

According to Diário Economico, based on a list published by the World Gold Council (WGC), an international organization of companies in the gold sector, based on data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Portugal Nha is ahead of countries like Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Spain or UK.
