Tourism revenue grows in Portugal

Data from the Bank of Portugal (BdP) shows that tourism revenue in Portugal grew by 3% in January 2026.
In the first month of the year, revenue from tourism activity totalled €1,596.42 million, an increase of 3% compared to the same month last year, according to data released this Friday, 20 March, by the Bank of Portugal (BdP).
In total, revenue was €1,596.2 million in January 2026, 3% higher than in December 2026. However, there is a slowdown compared to January 2025, when revenue increased 8.7% from December 2024.
Between January 2025 and January 2026, tourism revenue grew by €46.58 million, despite having registered growth of €125.07 million in the same period of the previous year, as revealed by Publituris. Thus, the recorded growth decreases by 62.8%.
Tourism imports
Despite a slowdown in revenue, tourism imports, i.e., spending by Portuguese tourists abroad, showed more substantial growth, reaching 5.7% in January. Demonstrating that the Portuguese continue to plan trips abroad.
Despite growth in tourism imports, the pace has slowed from the beginning of 2025, when imports grew by 11.5%.
