In September, tourist revenue grew by 15.4% compared to September 2022, according to the Bank of Portugal (BdP).

In addition to the growth in tourist revenues, which are found in exports under the Travel and Tourism heading and which result from spending by foreign tourists in Portugal, tourism imports, which represent spending by Portuguese tourists abroad, show an increase of 11 .2% compared to the same month last year.

The BdP highlights the increases recorded, which are in addition to those that had already occurred in August, when Travel and Tourism exports increased by 10.7%, while imports grew by 9.8%.

“In September 2023, the preliminary travel and tourism indicator points to a growth in exports of 15.4% compared to September 2022 (after a variation of 10.7% in August) and a growth in imports of 11.2% % (after a variation of 9.8% in August)”, reads the note published on the BdP website.
