According to the “Greece Sentiment Tracking Report Q2 2025”, jointly published by the Hellenic Tourism Organization (INSETE) and TCI Research, Greece continues to rank highly in international tourist satisfaction, with American and British visitors giving the highest scores.

US and UK Visitors Lead in Satisfaction

The report shows that US tourists rated their overall experience in Greece at 9.3/10, while UK tourists followed closely with 9.2/10. Regionally, preferences differ:

  • US tourists favored the Peloponnese Peninsula, scoring 9.6/10
  • UK tourists were most satisfied with the Cyclades Islands, scoring 9.2/10

Other notable country-specific satisfaction highlights include:

  • Polish tourists rated Thessaly 9.7/10
  • Hungarian tourists rated Thessaly 9.5/10
  • Bulgarian tourists rated Central Macedonia 9.5/10

In comparison, tourists from Germany (8.6/10), Italy (8.5/10), and France (8.4/10) reported slightly lower satisfaction levels.

Key Factors Boosting Greece’s Reputation

The report emphasizes that positive visitor sentiment is mainly driven by iconic landmarks, authentic cultural experiences, and warm hospitality:

  • Natural and Historical Sites: Santorini sunsets and caldera, Corfu UNESCO old town and scenic trails, Milos fishing villages and hidden beaches, Zagorochoria villages
  • Cultural Experiences: Knossos Palace in Crete, Athens-Epidaurus Festival, Eleusina cultural events
  • Culinary Experiences: Olive oil tastings, vegetarian cuisine, traditional dessert Portokalopita
  • Hospitality: Nationwide service satisfaction rated 9.5/10

Online Reputation Challenges

Despite high overall satisfaction, Greece’s online reputation faces pressure from:

  • Natural disasters: Heatwaves, floods, Chios wildfires, and Aegean earthquakes prompting negative reviews
  • Animal welfare concerns: Criticism over donkey rides in Santorini due to overworking

In Q2 2025, Greece achieved a Net Sentiment Score of 39, ranking 5th among major European tourist destinations, behind Croatia (66), Athens (61), Italy (51), and Portugal (49), while ahead of Spain (29).

The INSETE report concludes that Greece’s rich natural landscapes, deep cultural heritage, and high-quality services provide an exceptional travel experience. At the same time, improved natural disaster management and regional experience consistency are essential to maintain Greece’s competitiveness in the international tourism market.
