Portugal wins 12 tourism “Oscars” at World Travel Awards 2023

World Travel Awards 2023 have been revealed. The honors, which are regarded as the “Oscars” of travel, were presented at the worldwide grand final, which was held in Dubai. Portugal took home twelve medals.

In the ceremony that included more than 293 awards, Portugal won in 12 global categories. The Azores‘ win as the Best World Adventure Tourism Destination, Madeira‘s seventh consecutive win as the Best World Island Destination (Island), and Braga‘s selection as the Best Emerging Destination in the World are the highlights. TAP was also awarded in categories, the Portuguese airline that previously won two prizes in 2022—Best Airline for Africa and Best Airline for South America.
Regarding the award for Madeira, Eduardo Jesus, the president of the Madeira Promotion Association and regional secretary of Tourism and Culture, emphasized that it was “it is the consolidation of recognition regarding the work that has been developed by the entire sector in the sense of positioning the region as a unique destination that, throughout the 12 months of the year, captivates visitors from all over the world, due to its unique characteristics in terms of nature, culture, varied experiences and identity.”
Awarded since 1993the World Travel Awards (WTA) have been dubbed the “Oscars” of the travel industry. Professionals in the field view the WTA as a global recognition of the prestige and efforts made in the travel industry to promote the competitiveness and caliber of travel in a exceptional year for those responsible for the World Travel Awards, which are celebrating their 30th anniversary.
