Athens Airport Among Europe’s Top Performers in ACI’s February Punctuality Report
- 1 April, 26
Athens International Airport (AIA) recorded punctuality levels above the European average in February 2026, according to the latest Airport Performance Network (APN) report released by ACI Europe.
The Greek airport achieved an arrival punctuality rate of 82.7 percent and a departure punctuality rate of 82.5 percent, placing it among the top performers in the category of major European airports handling over 25 million passengers annually.
ACI Europe’s report shows that airport punctuality across the continent slightly declined compared to the same period last year, with 79 percent of flights arriving on time and 77 percent departing within the standard threshold of 15 minutes.
Within this context, Athens Airport stood out for maintaining strong operational performance, outperforming several major hubs. Airports such as Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt and Amsterdam recorded lower or more volatile punctuality levels, reflecting broader operational pressures across the continent.
Snow, fog and strong winds disrupt airport operations in February
According to ACI Europe, weather conditions were the main factor affecting performance across Europe in February. Snow, fog and strong winds disrupted operations at several key airports, including Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Vienna, while Copenhagen experienced periods of single-runway operations due to high winds. London Heathrow also faced frequent reduced visibility procedures.
ACI Europe also noted that some airports managed increased demand alongside adverse conditions. Zurich handled a surge in ski holiday traffic, while airports in the Milan area saw additional pressure linked to the Winter Olympics, with peaks around the opening and closing ceremonies.
Overall, the report highlights the resilience of airport operations across the continent, with punctuality remaining relatively strong despite seasonal disruptions. Against this backdrop, Athens Airport maintained solid performance, highlighting its operational efficiency during a challenging winter period.
