Hotels for sale falls with the resumption of tourism in Portugal

Portugal’s tourism has suffered a major blow to the pandemic, leaving several hotels and restaurants empty for months. Many tourist businesses were forced to close and this was reflected in the increase hotels for sale in the country. But now, with the return to normality and bookings for the summer, tourism is reborn.

The supply of hotels in the Portuguese market fell 14%: according to the data of the idealist, the hotels for sale market fell from 218 units in the first quarter of 2021 to 187 hotels in the same period of 2022.

These four districts of the Central region recorded the sharpest declines in the offer of hotels for sale in Portugal between the first quarter of 2021 and the same period of 2022. But there’s more:

  • Madeira Island: number of hotels for sale reduced from 13 to 8;
  • São Miguel island, in the Azores: supply reduced from 3 to 2;
  • Évora, in Alentejo: hotels for sale reduced from 4 to 3;
  • Porto: 37 to 30
